Sammie's is my go-to for gyros!! I love their meat and all the sides they have. The decor in this place is so amazing and creative! Their employees are always so friendly and have the best recommendations. I liked their new shrimp basket with fries, perfectly crispy. I didn't really think the extra meat gyro was worth it though, because the regular gyro has a lot of meat already... The dinner meal is so worth your money. Don't go to wendy's or McDonalds and pay $7 for a big mac meal. Just come here and get the best meal of your weeeeeek!

Sammies is one of the better fast food places in Lake County. I've eaten there many times (including today), and I've always been pleased with the food and service. Dave (the owner) is great, and often behind the counter taking orders. His work ethic reflects through his staff. The Italian Beef, gyros, hot dogs and burgers are all on par with some of the best fast food places in Chicagoland. The shakes and malts are awesome. I highly recommend the Dreamsicle shake. Another reviewer complained about the gyro meat not coming fresh off the spit. I'm not sure what he was taking about. I've been there many times and the gyro meat is always cut off the spit at the time of the order. Tip: Order the fries well-done; otherwise, they tend to be a bit greasy.

The food is really good for what it is. I have been coming here for years. The heat situation is ridiculous!!!!! It is 4 degrees outside right now and it is almost as cold inside as it is outside. All the employees have coats on and people complaining left and right about how cold it is inside. All the girls up front kept saying was the owner wouldn't let them turn the heat up! I had them pack my food and I left. No way I could eat in a freezing restaurant.

Let's not get me started with the poor and unsanitary food prep service for starters let's point out this the first time and last time the people didn't have any gloves on their hands and yet touching on everything and then made my meal. And when I made that known to the girl who took my order they got offended sorry to say but I'm not going to eat food that you touched with uncleaned bare hands in which they should've had gloves on in the first place. So they remade my meal. And that's when I noticed there was flies in the prep area now call me nuts if you want to but flies land on sh*t and dead animals and lay maggots and yes I have a huge issue with this. So I just asked for my money back and I'll never go back in that Sammie's and I urge anyone who reads this review please pay attention to what's going on in the prep area cause its your health and life that's on the line here and they don't care they are making a buck at your expense of your health. If I could give this location a half a star trust me they'll have it but according to yelp the lowest is one star. But as always use your on judgement and stay healthy

Sammies is okay...It's kind of a family staple (only reason why I return). The food isn't all that but it is good. I think the prices are kind of expensive for a "Hot-Dog joint". But hey...Food is alright.

They really ARE the best fries in the county- and also, some really great gyros! There are nicer places you could go to, but for the price, this is definitely the best place at the lowest price.

I love going to greasy joints which serve up quick comfort foods and Sammie's had good prospects on the outside and even when ordering. I was there early, just a head of the lunch crowd figuring it would be quicker service and the food preparation wouldn't be rushed. I kept the order simple, fries, and a couple of dogs with chili cheese sauce, onions and mustard. If you read my other reviews you'll know that I don't mind greasy fries, but these where more grease than fries. The chili sauce was not that great either.... I'm thinking it was either overcooked or I was chowing down yesterdays batch. The onions also had that slimy, sitting out too long taste. A total let down to the point where I didn't even eat the last hotdog. I also agree with several of the other Yelpers in that the price is a bit high... especially when it all turned out to be a dud.

Great hot dogs, great gyros, amazing chicken fingers. Plus, the BEST FRIES in the county. I'm a sucker for nice, crispy hand cut fries and these deliver. I will always choose this location over the other one in RL because of the fries.

I've heard good things about Sammie's, so I was excited to try a gyro plate. We headed over for a carry-out dinner last night. The fried mushrooms were AMAZING - steaming hot and juicy. By contrast, the fries were a soppy, greasy mess. A huge pity because I am a big fry fan.. I could only eat a handful before the grease got to my gut and it was just gross. Portions were ample, though.. the onion tasted fresh, but the tomatoes were a bit mealy. The gyros were good, but the tzatziki sauce was horribly bland and gritty. There was no taste of cucumber. How disappointing. I'd be willing to try them again in the hopes they can redeem themselves on the fries and tzatziki sauce.

Good place to get a Vienna Beef Chicago dog. They have a great 2 dog, fries, and a drink specials. Nothing fancy at this place, just your local area hot dog and italian beef place. Place is clean and good is excellent. Just a note they do put cucumbers on their Chicago dogs, which I know not everyone does.

Man I was hoping to find a good beef here as someone told me they were very good. What I found instead was an overcooked and dry Italian Beef that was rather bland, with mushy sweet peppers. The fries should be much better, but they were overcooked as well, so as they cooled they turned rock hard - too bad since I had hardly started eating them. Since I drove an hour to get here on an empty stomach while I ran an errand in the area, I can't express just how deeply disappointed I was in this place.

Delicious fries, great sandwiches. We get their burgers, chicken sandwiches and gyros. It didn't strike me as too expensive. Very reliably good food in the cuisine of "grill sandwiches" and fountain drinks.

I have to say we love this place for a quick but quality food joint! I have had the hot dogs, corn dogs, burgers, dinner salad; witch my fiancé and I love along with their chicken sandwich, Amazing and highly recommended! I would stay away from their pre oder & microwaveable tamales, and wings. I personally think if you have people who know how to make tamales, make a big batch and freeze them to sell fresh ones would be better then the pre made ones. The wings have a spicy, strange bread if with not that much meat to the wing/ drum along with the texture was off for me. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for quality and quick!

Delicious! This is my first time coming here and I must say that I've had a great experience. I ordered a cheese burger and some cheese fries. The cheese burger was yummy and the fries were too. But.. I've had better cheese. I recommend this place to anyone passing by!
